Bangers & Lace is finally open. I stopped in after a 12-hour day at work tonight and fell in love immediately. Immediately.
Dinner tonight consisted of smoked venison sausage with whiskey apple jam, beets, bacon, smoked pecans, pickled onions, jalapenos and sour cream on a challah roll. With a Great Divide Fresh Hop Pal Ale, for those who care. Still hungry, I had the greatest soft pretzel on earth, which came with a cup of chocolate stout mustard. Incredible. I also had a pint of Ommegang’s Cup O Kyndnes and whatever wheaty beverage the lady next to us left a full glass of when she walked out on her tab. We were encouraged by the friendly staff to partake, of course. No sense to let the heavenly tastes go to waste.
They opened yesterday and seem to be doing everything right. Excellent beers, incredible food (I can’t wait to try everything else on that menu), great decor (taxidermy always wins), even hooks underneath all the counters and tables for those big winter coats. I’m already concerned it’s almost too good; it was pretty crowded tonight, and this place has the potential to become super-duper-popular (Kuma’s, much?). Might be a place to avoid at weekend prime-time, but I’m holding out hope it stays as great as this first impression indicates.
It’s about 1200 feet from my front door, and I can’t wait to stop by every single chance I get.
A++++
By the way, you look just like William H Macy
